Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek

Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (UNIOS) was established in 1975. Today it has around 18000 students at three cycles and cca. 1500 members of academic staff. Main strategic objectives are focused on development and assurance of high quality research and teaching, internationalization and promotion of student and staff mobility, promotion of international ties with partner institutions, involvement in European trends (ERA, EHEA), contribution to social, cultural and economic life of the region and further infrastructure development. With 14 faculties, 3 departments and one Academy of Arts and Culture, the University offers studies according to the Bologna principles in all scientific fields. There are university undergraduate studies, university graduate studies, integrated undergraduate and graduate studies and postgraduate professional studies within the lifelong learning program, as well as postgraduate doctoral studies offered by UNIOS. One of UNIOS main priorities is development of international cooperation.

Faculty of Food Technology Osijek is a modern higher education institution that conducts scientific activities, provides 10 university courses, and 13 lifelong learning programs. In the past 10 years, it implemented 162 professional and international scientific projects, with 32 in progress. The faculty enables economic entities to apply the latest knowledge in food technology and biotechnology.

Paderborn University

Paderborn University is distinguished by its consistently dynamic and very successful development. Its five faculties (Arts and Humanities, Business Administration and Economics, Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics) offer a broad spectrum of disciplines with great cooperation potential for inter- and transdisciplinary projects. They form the basis for effective research at a high level, attractive course offerings, innovative teaching, and productive technology and knowledge transfer to business and society. With around 255 professors, 1,750 academic staff members (a total of 2,600 employees), 18,500 students, and 70 degree programmes as well as numerous services and advisory offices for research, academics/teaching, and transfer, Paderborn University offers outstanding conditions for research and study. An essential feature of UPB is its interdisciplinary, which is particularly important in tackling complex research problems. Among others, this includes a close collaboration of engineering and computer sciences, resulting in marketable engineering applications of computer science technologies. Furthermore, fundamental research in the natural sciences supports these developments fully in line with the requests of the modern information-based society.

The recent challenges of climate protection and natural resources savings drive the manufacturing and processing industries towards economically and ecologically sound production. The main target is to minimize energy consumption while keeping maximum productivity. This results in new requirements on the sustainable generation, conversion and rational use of the produced energy. These requirements can only be achieved if relevant interdisciplinary know-how is available. To address these issues, the Center for Sustainable Energy Technology (German abbreviation is KET) was founded in January 2012 at Paderborn University. The Center comprises four groups representing the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics. Following the leitmotif of intelligent system solutions, KET has been working on flagship trend-setting collaborative projects, the focus being set on optimization of power supply, efficient cooling of mechanical and electronic components, renewable energy, energy management, combined heat and power technology and efficient CO2 capture. KET has also got excellent experience with international collaborations via participation, including co-ordination functions, in several EC-funded projects.

Politecnico di Milano

Politecnico di Milano is a public scientific-technological university which trains engineers, architects and industrial designers. Founded in 1863, it is the oldest university in Milan. The Politecnico di Milano involves more than 47,170 students, 1,600 professors and over 1,100 research fellows, engaged in advanced and interdisciplinary education and research, in an innovative and international setting, at the heart of a wide network of universities, companies and professionals.

The Politecnico di Milano has always focused on the quality and innovation of its teaching and research, developing a fruitful relationship with business and productive world by means of experimental research and technological transfer. Research has always been linked to didactics and it is a priority commitment which has allowed Politecnico Milano to achieve high quality results at an international level as to join the university to the business world. Research constitutes a parallel path to that formed by cooperation and alliances with the industrial system. Knowing the world in which you are going to work is a vital requirement for training students. By referring back to the needs of the industrial world and public administration, research is facilitated in following new paths and dealing with the need for constant and rapid innovation. The alliance with the industrial world, in many cases favored by Fondazione Politecnico and by consortiums to which Politecnico belong, allows the university to follow the vocation of the territories in which it operates and to be a stimulus for their development. The challenge which is being met today projects this tradition which is strongly rooted in the territory beyond the borders of the country, in a relationship which is developing first of all at the European level with the objective of contributing to the creation of a single professional training market. Politecnico takes part in several research, sites and training projects collaborating with the most qualified European univ. Politecnico’s contribution is increasingly being extended to other countries: from North America to Southeast Asia to Eastern Europe. Today the drive to internationalization sees Politecnico Milano taking part into the European and world network of leading technical universities and it offers several exchange and double degree opportunities and a wide range of degree programmes entirely taught in English.
